Click here. Do it. Do it now. Do it especially if you are one of the several people who has discovered this site by searching for "Carlos D groupie."
addendum: That site has now been removed, so I guess I'm compelled to describe it. Basically some guy started a blog to promote public awareness of the fact that Carlos Dengler of Interpol has herpes and is spreading it to unsuspecting Interpol "enthusiasts." How did he know? Well, apparently his girlfriend contracted it after sleeping with Carlos D, then gave it to him. I'm not sure why he took it down so quickly (it was up for maybe two days), but maybe it was all of the people who were really incensed at him for... um... having a cheating girlfriend? I can't pretend to understand, but there were a lot of exceedingly hostile comments posted. Let's hope some of those people will locate us here- Google searches on "'carlos d' herpes" brings up... well, a lot of sites in Spanish, but "'carlos d' interpol herpes" just brings up a vague allusion from Gawker (it's at the bottom of the page) and now, most likely, Soi Disantra.
While you're digesting that, here are my newsstand notes for the week:
The new New Yorker has a new Atul Gawande (don't you love him?) piece and a pretty fascinating profile of Ole Anderson, a onetime Republican businessman who renounced basically everything to found a Christian organization and investigate unscrupulous televangelists.
The November Believer is more of a "read in the store" issue, but the piece on the 19th century southern postmodern novelist is certainly worth perusing (if that synopsis sounds intriguing- if not, the Believer just may not be your thing).
I thought maybe things were improving over at Spin now that Ultragrrl has retired her "makes out with every lameass in eyeliner" column or whatever it was called. Then I read Chuck Klosterman's assertion that the New Radicals' song (perhaps DM's least favorite song ever) was a near masterpiece. U2 on the cover isn't helping either.
DM and I are plotting our response to the Rolling Stone Top 500 songs list, so keep an eye out for that. "You Get What You Give" will not be featured.
